Buying a Franchise in a Pandemic

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work and the only way to do great work is to love what you do”

– Steve Jobs

For a lot of people, lockdown showed us areas of our lives that needed more attention. It enabled us to stop and have time to reflect. Previously, I had been running around like a ‘headless chicken’ and missing the parts of my life that ultimately were the most important. The chances of family and vulnerable friends being affected by Covid, reflecting on what is important and what we leave behind us when our time is done, was a profound thought that kept me awake in the middle of the night.

With my children being young, this got me thinking… If anything should happen to me, what would my children remember of me? Being passed from pillar to post to enable me to work? Being stressed and unappreciated and in a job where my hourly rate worked out less than the minimum wage. I decided I needed a full lifestyle MOT.

I wanted to be a role model for my children. I have always instilled in them “You can do anything you put your heart into” but by being afraid to take that leap, I wasn’t practicing what I preached.

I love children and I love health, so I investigated several franchises. I knew a franchise was right for me… because having no business experience, I wanted the support from the people who had ‘been there and done that’.

I looked at what was sustainable, not just a temporary craze. What would keep bringing me income year after year? What could I grow into a business that not only I would be proud of but would benefit the people in my community?

For me it was the connection I felt with the franchisor, I knew from the initial conversation that this was a company I wanted to be a part of, this was a company I wanted behind me. It was sustainable, it gave me flexible working hours and I could build my business to suit my needs.
