A Labrador<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>called Star, who has been described as a little boy’s \u2018light in his darkest times’<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0was just one of the\u00a0<\/span>deserving\u00a0<\/span>doggy winners to be discovered in the Barking Mad UK Dog Awards<\/span>, which celebrated canine companions and the difference they make to our lives.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Proud owner, Denise Meir, entered Star in the \u2018Man’s Best Friend’ category\u00a0<\/span>because of the transformational effect the dog has had on her son’s life. She<\/span>\u00a0said:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“<\/span>O<\/span>llie has\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>utism\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>nxiety<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>It’s hard to think about what life was like without Star. She made Ollie slowly begin to try things he finds difficult. When the anxiety consumes his thoughts<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0Star\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0there to tell him it’s okay and that he isn’t alone. In moments that Ollie h<\/span>as h<\/span>ad too much<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0Star\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0there with no words<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0just a deep pressure cuddle, one that\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0accepted by a little b<\/span>o<\/span>y who doesn’t like touch.\u00a0<\/span>S<\/span>he saved our boy when he needed it the most<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0In the truth of my heart she saved myself and my husband, she saved our family<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
