{"id":5415,"date":"2020-06-03T08:56:26","date_gmt":"2020-06-03T07:56:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.franchiselocal.co.uk\/news\/?p=5415"},"modified":"2020-05-29T17:01:29","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T16:01:29","slug":"in-the-midst-of-covid-19-veeno-eyes-up-expansion-via-franchising","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.franchiselocal.co.uk\/news\/in-the-midst-of-covid-19-veeno-eyes-up-expansion-via-franchising\/","title":{"rendered":"In the midst of Covid-19 Veeno eyes up expansion via franchising"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><h3>Veeno has revealed plans to expand via franchising, while also unveiling plans to renovate its key wine bars as it looks beyond to a post-coronavirus (Covid-19) future.<\/h3>\n<p>Rodrigue Trouillet, who bought the Italian wine bar chain out of administration in March 2019 having joined the business as a partner in 2018, told Harpers the goal for 2020 was to renovate its key stores with \u201ca fresh look and improved menu\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, he said the business had picked up the concept of franchising again at the end of 2019 &#8211; under its old ownership several of Veeno\u2019s outlets were run under franchise, with an original view (pre-coronavirus) to launch two to three such sites this year. It currently has eight wine bars, including one franchisee in Reading.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the pandemic, the revised plan was to \u201chopefully\u201d open two to three franchised sites during 2021. In preparation for this, Veeno last week added a dedicated franchise page to its website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVeeno has recently engaged again in franchising. The business model being attractive due to low capital investment and a simple operation makes this an affordable franchise and is getting a lot of interest from potential leads,\u201d said Trouillet.<\/p>\n<p>Veeno was also looking to expand abroad via franchising, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The business was \u201cof course being cautious on the approach and making sure opportunities are thoroughly assessed and mutually beneficial for the franchisee and the corporation\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Measures to knock the business back into shape included closing down three of its bars as \u201cthey weren\u2019t making any money, but we have kept all the sites we firmly believe in\u201d, said Trouillet.<\/p>\n<p>The past year had all been about \u201cstimulating the business and recovering from past issues &#8211; \u201chaving gone into administration there were real financial problems\u201d, said Trouillet, adding Veeno was on the back of \u201ca strong solid performance\u201d now in a good position to look and plan for a post-coronavirus future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVeeno has been trading successfully with consistent like-for-like sales growth since March 2019 and even during the first weeks of March 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Troillet didn\u2019t rule out adding further \u2018corporate sites\u2019: \u201cWe may look into that but it takes a lot more capital investment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Not ignoring the \u201cexisting situation\u201d, Trouillet said \u201cwe have to deal with this but we also have to look forward and prepare\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Having furloughed staff, Veeno, which has a 50-strong workforce, said it was not looking to make any redundancies as a result of coronavirus<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veeno has revealed plans to expand via franchising, while also unveiling plans to renovate its key wine bars as it looks beyond to a post-coronavirus (Covid-19) future.
