Reading Time: 2 minutesTell us a bit about yourself and what you were doing prior to buying a franchise business?

I’ve been looking at ways to start a property based business for a very long time. Prior to purchasing the Portsmouth territory, I had completed an undergraduate degree in business management and a masters degree in human resources. I have previously worked in a number of roles in the retail, professional services and not for profit sectors. I have just started my months’ training for my franchise and I am currently in Week 2 of this.

Why did you go down the franchise route? And why did you choose a Nicholas Humphreys franchise?

I chose the franchise route as I felt that having the backing and support of a national brand would be valuable when initially launching the business. I chose Nicholas Humphreys because of the level of support provided, and because of the knowledge that the franchise team have.

How did you raise the finance?

I used a business loan to raise the funds required to start the business.

What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?

I’m still in my initial training period. This has involved training on business generation, building and improving SEO, using software and training on the entire lettings process. In terms of support, the franchise team arranged a market research day for the territory and explained some of the comments made by agents in the territory, as well as some of the market trends. I’ve asked a lot of questions, and the franchise team have always responded promptly with detailed answers.

What is the most invaluable piece of advice you could give someone looking to buy their first franchise?

Have a look at the other franchise offerings on the market, and compare the support, training and equipment that they provide to the Nicholas Humphreys franchise. In your training period make sure that you understand everything that you go through. If you aren’t sure on something, ask the franchise team to revisit it with you.

What are your plans for the future and your vision for your Nicholas Humphreys franchise?

I’m looking forward to launching the business on completion of my training period. I want Nicholas Humphreys in Portsmouth to be the go to agents for landlords looking to find tenants for their student properties!

What are your personal goals for the future?

Once I’ve established the business in Portsmouth my aim is to expand into other territories and eventually start to acquire properties and create my own portfolio.

Have you any advice to prospective franchisees looking to choose a franchise?

Get some legal advice to ensure that the franchise route is definitely right for you. Contact the existing franchisees and ask them any questions that you might have. They’re all friendly and are happy to answer your questions!

Would you do it again based on your experience so far?

Based on my experience so far, yes I would do it again!
