I was intrigued and led to Refresh Renovations because of the brand and community of Refresh – along with it being a new adventure!

I graduated from César Ritz College in Switzerland with a double bachelors degree in Hospitality. One degree was from Brig, Switzerland and the other from Washington State University, in the United States. I have worked in Switzerland, California, Texas and Georgia. I have also worked in quite a variety of hotels, including: Kempinski, Rosewood, Omni, Westin and the Kessler Collection.

The majority of my hospitality work focused on the Food & Beverage Department. I was in charge of daily operations of food and beverage outlets as well as team engagement with customers. I also carried out work in human resources where I assisted with department projects, compliance, and overall morale of employees.

I enjoyed the hospitality sector for its fast pace and the different atmosphere – no two days were ever the same. However, most enjoyment came from customer service where I could make a difference and create a memorable experience for customers.

What stood out about Refresh for me was its value proposition: “Ensuring residential homeowners get the renovation experience and outcome they desire for the best possible value.”

I wanted to join a brand and community that really ensured the best overall experience for the client throughout their renovation project by delivering a five star renovation experience. I also had the desire to start my own business. Choosing Refresh captured my interest in home renovations, and project management.

Since becoming a Refresh franchise owner, I have found many skills from the past being beneficial to the needs of this new venture. These include: project management, a can-do attitude, and leadership.

The overall five step process for completing a renovation is fantastic. Along with the process, Refresh has developed IT systems and procedures that help facilitate the day-to-day operations of the business. Having the resources to aid in the planning and implementation of an online advertising campaign is another great support, especially when online is already so competitive. With Refresh, there is a team there to support you!

My advice to potential franchisees is don’t be intimidated if you have no prior renovation experience. At first I was really intimidated but I realized that there is more to running a successful franchise than detailed renovation know-how. What drives a successful franchise is following the 5 step Refresh Renovations process, focusing on excellent customer service, investing in the business, great leadership to develop a team (that will deliver on the renovation knowledge) and utilizing the IT systems and procedures in place.
