Ovenu franchisees across the UK are celebrating the fantastic news that Ralph – the guide dog puppy they proudly sponsored through Guide Dogs – has officially graduated and is now a fully qualified guide dog.
After more than 18 months of training, development, and character-building, Ralph has been successfully matched with his new owner and has already begun making a life-changing difference. The Golden Retriever-Labrador cross has transitioned from a playful pup into a calm, confident, and capable guide dog – now pictured proudly wearing his harness, ready for the world.
Ralph’s trainer, Leonie, supported him through the final stages of his training and matched him with his new owner based on personality and guiding style. She describes Ralph as “laid-back and genuine,” thriving on praise and happiest when he knows he’s done a good job, especially when rewarded with his favourite treat, a snuffle mat and some well-earned rest.
She added: “Ralph has already had a massive impact on his new owner’s life. They’ve bonded beautifully and are forming a strong partnership built on trust and teamwork.”

Ovenu franchisees began sponsoring Ralph in late 2023 through the Guide Dogs’ ‘Name a Puppy’ scheme, after their first sponsored pup, Selsey, had to retire early due to a minor health issue. Determined to continue their support, franchisees named Ralph in honour of Rik’s late grandfather, who, along with his grandmother, lost his sight.
Originally raised by Puppy Raisers Adrian and Toni, Ralph impressed early on with his calm nature, great travel habits, and developing food manners. His journey from playful puppy to qualified guide dog has been closely followed by Ovenu’s network, with regular “pup-dates” shared throughout.
Supporting a guide dog through its life – from birth to retirement – costs around £56,000. Ovenu’s sponsorship is part of a wider commitment to giving back and making a positive impact.
