Does EE Franchise in the UK?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Our lives are increasingly reliant on our mobile phones, whether we’re shopping, working or just staying in touch with family and friends. In the UK, 55.5 million of us are smartphone users; that’s a whopping 82.9% of the population.

So it will come as no surprise that the mobile phone game is big business.  Mobile company EE is thriving with 600 outlets and 15,000 employees across the UK with so many users available.

While employment with EE is certainly available, what you really want to know is, does EE franchise in the UK?

Hold the phone

The answer to this is actually no, EE does not franchise in the UK.

The majority of EE’s outlets in the UK are managed within the company’s internal hierarchy as the powers that be believe that this is key to providing a consistent level of service.  Having said that, EE does occasionally offer franchise opportunities to carefully selected individuals.

Money talks

If you fancy your chances of bagging yourself an EE franchise, there are a few things you need to know.  Firstly, you’ll need to come up with a pretty substantial chunk of change for your initial investment fee – £150,000, to be precise.  You’ll also need liquid capital of at least £60,000.

While funding is available through a third party, you will be expected to stump up some of the initial investment yourself.  In return for your fee, you’ll receive everything you need to get started with your EE franchise.

What is franchising?

Franchising allows individuals to start up in business for themselves without the risks that often go hand in hand with going it alone.  The individual (the franchisee) hands over a fee in order to ‘buy into’ a more prominent, well-established company.

This fee will usually cover training, equipment and any other supplies that the franchisee will need to get their business off the ground.

Once up and running, the franchisee will pay the company (the franchisor) a monthly fee which will generally be made up of a percentage of the franchisee’s sales or profits.

Franchise businesses usually run on a five-year contract and, at the end of this term, the franchisee will have the opportunity to renew the contract.  If they choose not to do so, then their interest in the business is returned to the franchisor.

Conclusion

Although EE’s current franchising opportunities are pretty limited, a spokesperson for the company has said that this is a business model which they would be very interested in pursuing in the future. So it’s absolutely worth keeping an eye on this one in the next year or so.
