Children and young people were kept busy this summer with theatre, dance, music and art classes – all thanks to a Harrow summer camp run by this year’s Harrow Business Den runner up Fresh Arts Ltd.

Fresh Arts has been making the arts more accessible for children, whatever their background or income, since 2009. The classes help build confidence, improve public speaking and boost literacy and academic performance.

Founded by Davinia and Pierre Khan, Fresh Arts has two arms – Fresh Arts Education and Fresh Arts Theatre School. Fresh Arts Education provides drama, dance, music and art classes and after school clubs to schools and nurseries, while the theatre school runs professional training and accredited qualifications.

“Don’t be afraid to start small!” Davinia Khan

Davinia’s acting background with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Young Vic Theatre and Pierre’s background in business drove the couple’s desire to create an ethical family-run arts company.

“We found there was a need for high-quality accessible arts. It’s grown from a class of 6 to around 2,500 children a week.”

“Harrow Business Den was a great experience. The mentoring and business support has helped us to grow – we’re now looking to expand our services, to double the number of children we work with.

“Our advice for other entrepreneurs is follow your passion. Don’t be afraid of starting small and be prepared to work extremely hard on your own business to make it a success.”
