Karl Langford is making the move from carpets to cookers after taking over Ovenu Guernsey from long-standing franchisee Chris Robilliard.
Chris, who ran the oven cleaning service for more than two decades, is easing himself into a well-earned retirement by continuing to work with Karl over the next few months to ensure a smooth handover.
Karl, 39, was born and raised on the island and brings plenty of experience to the role, having spent the past five years working for a local carpet cleaning company. Before that, he ran his own newspaper distribution business.
The father-of-three from St Peter Port said: “Cleaning carpets was the perfect preparation for running this business. It’s hands-on, rewarding, and gives you real job satisfaction. I also enjoy meeting people and getting out and about across the island, so it’s a natural fit.
“I’ve huge respect for everything Chris has achieved in building up Ovenu Guernsey. Once he fully steps back, I’m keen to grow the business by recruiting a couple of new oven technicians to meet rising demand and maintain the quality clients expect.”
Chris, also from St Peter Port, joined the Merchant Navy in his youth and travelled the world before returning home, and launching the franchised business in 2004. A keen cyclist, he’s now looking forward to spending more time in the saddle.
Reflecting on his 21-year journey, he said: “It’s been a fantastic experience, and I’ve met so many wonderful people. Karl has the right attitude and work ethic, and I’m pleased to see him take over. I’ll stick around a little while longer, but I’m definitely looking forward to enjoying a slower pace of life!”
