Reading Time: 3 minutesThe Merry Maids franchise is a national domestic cleaning franchise and for over 35 years, has been offering domestic cleaning services across the country. With nearly 50 franchise locations across the UK, this professional cleaning franchise is worth considering.

In our latest Franchisor Interview, we spoke with Emma Chappell the Franchise Recruitment Marketing Manager of Merry Maids, to discuss what makes this franchise opportunity unique and what prospective franchisees can expect from them.

How is Merry Maids different from other similar franchises in the UK?

Merry Maids offer a unique opportunity to entrepreneurs to build a profitable and sustainable business through a tried and tested business model.

What is your biggest achievement at Merry Maids so far?

Our biggest achievement is the research, development, pilot and launch of our most recent innovation, our e-commerce facility. It enables customers to book and pay for their clean online at a time to suit them, day or night and any day of the week. To an online customer, we are never closed, so our business owners capitalise on the growing group of customers who are time poor and have a desire to book something there and then.

What is the best feedback you have heard about your brand?

We regularly ask for feedback from both our franchisees and our end-user customers to enable us to improve on areas where we could be better and to recognise the areas where we are great. The best feedback that we receive is that our brand has enabled an individual whether business owner or customer, the freedom and desired lifestyle for their family.

Why would you recommend Merry Maids to people wanting to open a franchise?

We would recommend a Merry Maids franchise to individuals who are looking to own their own business for themselves, but not by themselves. We have a strong position in a growing market place and offer our business owners a proven money-making business model, security and trust of an established brand and unlimited support from franchise professionals within our franchise support team.

What qualities does the ideal franchisee possess?

When adding to our franchise network of business owners, we look for a potential franchisee to be aspirational, enthusiastic and driven to succeed. Starting a business is not natural to everyone, so we do look for a certain calibre of individual to ensure that they have the qualities to succeed with our support and guidance.

How long does the process of starting a Merry Maids franchise take?

There isn’t a set length of time to start our franchise as we understand the journey can be quite different for everyone. We encourage our prospective franchisees to take their time undertaking due diligence and to truly consider the implications of agreeing to a 5-year franchise agreement. However, from the point of signing up, the journey can be as short as a few weeks until the official training academy begins.

How much support and training is offered to your franchisees?

Training never actually stops and is encouraged throughout the length of the franchise. However, all franchisees undertake an intensive 3-week training programme covering everything from the basics, to the more complex aspects of running a business. Our training programme is tailored to the existing skill set of individuals on the academy. One of the main reasons that our franchise is so popular is that we provide unlimited support to our franchisees in operations, marketing, IT and HR. This comes in many forms including our operations manual, data banks, as well as onsite and remote visits.

In what ways do you help Merry Maids franchisees achieve a healthy work-life balance?

We encourage our franchisees to set out from the beginning what they would like to put in to the franchise and what they would like to get out of it. Time is a huge factor in success, but less of it is needed when it is used effectively. Our operations team often work with business owners on a 1-2-1 basis to assist with plans to make a business more efficient, requiring less time from a business owner. A Merry Maids franchise has great business hours of Monday – Friday, typically 9 – 5pm and involves no evenings, weekends or bank holidays if you don’t want to do them. This flexibility often means that business owners have much more free time to do the things that they want to do.

Is there anything you would like to add?

We offer a genuine money-making business opportunity in a market place worth an estimated £50bn in the UK and are looking for motivated individuals to secure their part of it with the guidance and support of Merry Maids franchise.
