Walfinch Delivers Care that Suits Clients to a Tee

Kam Gill and her Walfinch care team believe in going the extra mile – even if it’s on a golf course.

Kam, Managing Director of the Walfinch care service franchise in Oxford, and her care supervisor Danielle Young, recently organised a golf session for their client Brian Marlow, 92.

“He’s often talked about how he and his wife used to pay golf together, sometimes competing. She has dementia now so can’t play, and he missed their games,” says Kam.

Danielle says: “I’d never played golf in my life, but I often think about how I can do a bit more to enhance the lives of my care clients. As well as making life more interesting for Brian, it would give me the chance to learn a new skill out in the fresh air.”

Danielle took Brian to the local golf driving range in Blewbury, Oxford. Brian says: “I hadn’t played for six years so I was a bit rusty at first, but it was great to be back swinging a club again. It was marvellous to feel that Kam and Danielle wanted to support me in this, and that Danielle was willing to learn from me.”

Danielle says. “Brian taught me how to hold a golf club and the first time we went was so much fun that we decided to go again – and both of us did better. Brian hit the ball over 150 yards and was over the moon. I managed 100 yards, so I’m improving!”

Meanwhile Kam says that she and her team frequently go the extra mile for their clients. “We are helping provide a pamper session for a client who’s been dealing with depression. She’s now feeling better and has a hairdresser coming to her home soon, so our carer is going along to do her nails.

“I gave Easter eggs to our clients and staff and give carers chocolates to give to clients for their birthdays.”

“A Walfinch care franchise means you get the reward of bringing care to so many people, and it’s lovely to get messages from families saying how happy they are with the care we provide.”

Kam started her franchise in 2017, and now has 50 clients and a care team of 28. “We’re planning to double in size in terms of staff and clients, but I’m confident that I will get a lot of support.  Walfinch goes the extra mile to support its franchisees, which makes it easier for us to do the same for our clients.”
