A St Helens couple have turned their passion for home renovation into a new business, helping homeowners transform their kitchens with a more affordable and less disruptive approach.
Pablo Alvarez and Emilie Gomez recently launched Kitchen Makeovers (Wigan), bringing their shared experience of renovating their own home into a service designed to help others achieve high-quality results without the need for a full refit.
After relocating to St Helens in June 2025, the couple purchased and renovated their own property, gaining first-hand insight into the challenges and rewards of transforming a living space.
That experience sparked a passion for creating practical, stylish improvements – and ultimately led them to launch their own business.
“We really enjoyed the process of renovating our own home and seeing the difference it made to how we lived in the space,” said Pablo. “It made us realise how impactful a kitchen transformation can be, without needing to start from scratch.”
Drawing on their previous experience in retail purchasing and warehouse operations, the couple have built a strong foundation in organisation, communication and customer service – all of which now underpin how they run their business.
Pablo works directly with customers, managing each project from initial consultation and measuring through to planning and completion, while Emilie supports the business alongside her full-time job as a business analyst, handling enquiries and administration to ensure a smooth and well-organised experience.
“We know how important it is for customers to feel confident when making changes to their home,” Pablo added. “That’s why we focus on careful planning, clear communication and making sure every detail is right from start to finish.”
Kitchen Makeovers provides an alternative to a full kitchen renovation by transforming existing spaces through replacement doors, worktops and fittings, offering a quicker, more cost-effective and less disruptive solution.
“In the current climate, people are really conscious of cost,” Pablo explained. “A full kitchen renovation can take weeks and cost significantly more. One of the ways our business keeps costs down is by not having a showroom. I get to talk to customers in their homes and we can visualise together what their new kitchen might look like.
“What we’re offering is a way to achieve that fresh look in just a few days, without the same level of expense or upheaval.”
Pablo and his team of professionals have already completed their first installations. “One customer called me after their kitchen was finished to say how happy they were and that it felt like a brand-new kitchen, which is exactly what you want to hear. That’s what this business is all about – delivering something people genuinely love.”
