A Day in the Life of a SportsCool Franchise

Sam Skidmore (Bolton & Wigan)

I have been working with SportsCool for a number of years. For just under two years, I was coaching every day of the week for head office. In 2017 I had an opportunity to buy a SportsCool franchise and continue to grow the business in my area. I trusted that the team at head office were there to support me and essentially guide me through the process.

Each day is completely different and generally involves answering emails and phone calls for new and existing clients, planning, and organising new courses, looking for venues to set up clubs and importantly, recruiting coaches to teach in our schools and community classes. One of my most favourable parts is the relationships you can build with the coaches, schools, staff, pupils and parents. It really does end up one big family and team!

My biggest challenge was in the first two to three months of taking on the franchise. It can be tricky to piece together the puzzle of schools and staff logistics, but if you like a challenge then this is definitely for you! Now I have a very busy schedule and have built up SportsCool’s reputation in the Bolton & Wigan region.

If you are thinking of buying a franchise, you must be passionate about the business, educating children, be self-motivated and willing to work extremely hard to see results initially.

My future plans are to continue to grow my franchise area to enable me to have a strong and comfortable life ahead.

Louise Crabtree SportsCool Franchise

SportsCool’s Louise Crabtree has shared the story of her franchising journey so far in an interview with head office.

One of SportsCool’s longest-serving franchisees, Louise Crabtree, has been sharing what inspired her to get into franchising and how her journey has gone so far. The former high school teacher was inspired to open her own franchise while on maternity leave and came across the SportsCool opportunity by chance.

Louise explained how her friend introduced her to the opportunity and why it appealed to her.

“I’ve always had a passion for working with children and this opportunity was introduced to me by my friend whilst they were working for head office themselves. The SportsCool franchise option allowed me to kick start my passion for working with children, operating it as my own business (a challenge I extremely enjoyed), learning more about sports and coaching myself. As a new mother, it gives me that flexibility to get a great balance between family and working life.”

She praised the education franchise for the support she’s received throughout her franchising journey.

“Since my initial enquiry, Matt (Co-founder of SportsCool) has been my business support throughout, ensuring that I am provided with thorough training and guidance from the team as well as advising me when it came to getting set up as a business. He reminds me that we are now a ‘family’ and that any concerns or help I might require, they will always be there to help me address it and get it right. In all honesty, his continuous support has helped with building my confidence in running this franchise successfully for many years.”

She also thanked Operations Manager Sam and Sales Director Lee for their support in helping her start her business up and get it running efficiently.

Louise also revealed the best part of being a franchisee.

“I’ve had the opportunity to embark on my new venture whilst having the benefit of valuable support and at the same time as being able to develop upon my passion for working with children.”

Finally, she shared her top tip for prospective franchisees looking to become part of the SportsCool family;

“Ensure you research the opportunity thoroughly and make sure it is the right fit for you if you choose SportsCool, be sure that it’s because you want to further develop your interest/passion for coaching and don’t be afraid to ask questions in getting to know about the business and what their expectations are. Try and experience first-hand what the business is all about and make sure you choose it because it’s something that you will enjoy running!”
