TruGreen Franchisor Interview Q&A’s

Reading Time: 3 minutes

In our latest Franchisor Interview, we spoke with Emma Chappell the Franchise Sales Manager of TruGreen, to discuss what makes this franchise opportunity unique and what prospective franchisees can expect from them.

Owning a TruGreen Franchise represents a year-long business where you will provide tailored lawn care treatments to your customers and encompass a host of management activities that go with building up a multi-van business.

How is TruGreen different from other similar franchises in the UK?

TruGreen offers a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs to build a profitable and sustainable business through a tried and tested business model in the lawn care sector. Our bespoke service and customer interaction are the main differences, and form the basis of our KPI’s.

What is your biggest achievement at TruGreen so far?

Our biggest achievement is the research, development, pilot and launch of our most recent innovation, our bespoke business management software. It has been completely purpose-built based on feedback from franchisee consultations and enables business owners to add customer, employee, treatment, product, payment and business management information into the software anywhere, at any time, all in accordance with data protection and GDPR.

Having been functional for a couple of years now, our business owners tell us that the system gives them the transparency that they need to make business decisions and frees up their time having all information in one place.

What is the best feedback you have heard about TruGreen?

We regularly ask for feedback from both our franchisees and our end-user customers to enable us to improve on areas where we could be better and to recognise the areas where we are great. The best feedback that we receive is that our brand has enabled an individual whether business owner or customer, the freedom and desired lifestyle for their family.

Why would you recommend TruGreen to people wanting to open a franchise?

As well as recommending a TruGreen franchise to individuals who would like to work in the great outdoors, we would also recommend a TruGreen franchise to individuals who are looking to own their own business for themselves but not by themselves. We have a strong position in a growing market place and offer our business owners a proven money-making business model, security and trust of an established brand and unlimited support from franchise professionals within our franchise support team.

What qualities does the ideal franchisee possess?

When adding to our franchise network of business owners, we look for a potential franchisee to be aspirational, enthusiastic and driven to succeed. Starting a business is not natural to everyone, so we do look for a certain calibre of individual to ensure that they have the qualities to succeed with our support and guidance.

How long does the process of starting a TruGreen franchise take?

There isn’t a set length of time to start our franchise as we understand the journey can be quite different for everyone. We encourage our prospective franchisees to take their time undertaking due diligence and to truly consider the implications of agreeing to a 5-year franchise agreement. However, from the point of signing up, the journey can be as short as a few weeks until the official training academy begins.

How much support and training is offered to your franchisees?

Training never actually stops and is encouraged throughout the length of the franchise. However, all franchisees undertake an intensive 2-week training programme covering everything from the basics, to the more complex aspects of running a business. Professional qualifications are required for our franchise with two examinations to be taken and this is included within our package.

Our training programme is tailored to the existing skill set of individuals on the academy. One of the main reasons that our franchise is so popular is that we provide unlimited support to our franchisees in operations, marketing, IT and HR. This comes in many forms including our operations manual, data banks, as well as onsite and remote visits.

In what ways do you help TruGreen franchisees achieve a healthy work-life balance?

We encourage our franchisees to set out from the beginning what they would like to put in to the franchise and what they would like to get out of it. Time is a huge factor in success, but less of it is needed when it is used effectively. Our operations team often work with business owners on a 1-2-1 basis to assist with plans to make a business more efficient, requiring less time from a business owner. A TruGreen franchise can only operate in daylight hours and as such typically operates Monday – Friday 9 – 5pm and involves no evenings, weekends or bank holidays if you don’t want to do them. This flexibility often means that business owners have much more free time to do the things that they want to do.

Is there anything you would like to add?

We offer a genuine money-making business opportunity in a growing market and are looking for motivated individuals to build a profitable business with the guidance and support of TruGreen franchise.
